For over 20 years, church youth groups, boy
scouts, families, camps, and many others have been heading to the
mountains to experience Mother Nature at her finest with a rafting trip.
The folks came for a variety of different reasons, some for the fresh air,
some for the natural beauty of the mountains, and some for the thrill of
the river. All left with an indelible memory of a wonderful wilderness
adventure.
But there is more to rafting than a
wonderful wilderness adventure. Rafting is a compelling interactive,
teaching tool for Youth Leaders. Not only does rafting get our youth away
from the TV and in to the fresh air, but they love it, they pay attention,
they listen, and they remember what they have seen, felt, and learned. It
provides a metaphor for life values and a frame reference from which to
teach these values.
